I am painting a still life with bottle wine (half full with red wine). How affect color behind clear glass in a cup? What equipment do you use? i.e. ... use color and then soaking it in water, to bring them down dark, or use background color and then dabbing white or gray Summit? Thanks!

Paint only the areas with clean water to add color to paint it brush loaded with color, so it will be flow into the wet area. If you need to signal down do not add a little color white or gray add a little color from the other color wheel red, it will be green. mix it with red to get mitigation color. You Do not add much because it will become brown. Do you still life set up to be afraid of? This really is the best way. Observe!
