Shung, literally "spring pictures", is a general term used to describe erotic prints, books, scrolls and paintings from Japan.
Prudery
Only recently (1990) study of paintings depicting Shung-sex (male male) and lesbians (women females) was initiated acts of love. The late R the "domain secret" was caused by official censorship in Japan and also because of the anxiety and prudery on the specific subject in the past.
Female Male
Homosexuality, known in Japanese meaning nansoku "Male love" was not an unusual phenomenon in Edo (today Tokyo) period in Japan. In the early years of the Tokugawa regime (at the beginning 17th century), women outnumbered men in Edo. They were very strict rules imposed by government standards, inspired a loyal Confucianism which excludes women to participate in any co-operation with the exception of homework. These rules and the lack of women can be seen as a decisive factor in a large number of homosexual. The most characteristic feature images of sex in the Shung-man, the man is the relationship between the two involved "Lovers." Leading and dominant male with a shaven head is always the older, is based on seniority or a higher social status, while the passive partner was subjected to pre-adolescence or adolescence the boy or young man, depicted with a shaggy head of hair. These young boys are often seen in conjunction with the women and the fabric can easily be mistaken for girls. Served as the high-ranking samurai, monks, rich merchants and workers and the elderly were the most desirable in adolesence especially between the age of 15 and 17 years old, when he was still without a dryer vent. There are also several projects Shung about sex triangle depicting one man (always a young man) in the middle of sexual intercourse partner with women, while their back by an intruder. In the majority of images representing Shung man / young anal sex, genitals of young people are often hidden in the audience focus on the clothes and elegant lines of the body.
Secrets of Women
During when a Japanese term for men men (nanshoku) and male or female joshoku meaning nyoshoku "Love of women", there was no such word to describe women or female lesbianism. Most Shung's I have come across as a dealer in the past 15 years for projects focused specifically for women (about 20!) Presents both an individual female masturbation using fingers or harigata (Artificial phallus / dildo) or two intimate women sharing the same sexual equipment. Hokusai (1760-1849), the most famous ukiyo-e master designed two lesbians ehon (book) printed in one of two awabi (abalone) divers in the sea cucumber. So far only Shung containing the subject, which was described in the literature is known for its design Eiri companies oban series models Calligraphy (Fumi no kiyogaki) published in 1801. In the book, Shung Art of Love in Japan "(1975) Tom and Mary Evans make an interesting comparison in the with Eiri (attributed to them Eisho) design and painting Shung influential post-impressionist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec:
"Whereas, Toulouse-Lautrec focuses on the emotional bond between the girls and the sad emptiness of a life which, within their each other's arms, Eisho (Eiri) involved physical details of their relationship. And even with such open-Lautrec the artist felt that such details were more than could be reasonably presented to the public, the Japanese were the main component of the project. "(Evans - Shung, Art of Love in Japan)
It is emphasized that these images in Shung lesbianism was the result of male fantasies, designed by women and men for the public.
Deep View
Notwithstanding the first I felt ashamed for the representation of these subjects suppressed under Shung Japanese genre that is exactly what those images that provide deep insight into the cultural and historical background of their country during the Edo period.
